’bout
Normally, I wouldn’t think anyone would care enough to want to read about me. However, as odd as it seems, I’ve had enough questions or comments to tell me otherwise. I’ve even had my own peers tell me I’m a bit of a mystery, which is a surprise (even though I’ve heard it a few times). Maybe the fact that I’d normally never think of writing a page like this is one of the reasons I end up being a mystery?
Well, let’s try to remedy that now.
I’ve had a bit of a mixed-bag string of careers. I’m an ‘old school’ marketer (background in the mysterious art of direct response marketing). This means I can not only one-step, but two-step and even waltz a customer through the buying process (inside joke folks). It also means I’ve written a lot of press releases, ad copy, headlines, classified ads, postcards and mailers. You might be surprised to find you’ve stumbled across my work in your mailbox or maybe in some products you’ve bought over the years.
I haven’t always been in sales and marketing but I won’t bore you with war stories of firefighting, setting up keyboards for Motley Crue, importing Japanese anime, writing music for television, graphic design, or screening Star Wars films before they opened. Those all seem like former lives now. Nowadays… I do the sorts of things that made you want to visit blipfish.com.
What do I do?
I sell things. I sell various things online and offline. Clothing and art, in particular, are my thing. I do sell information (how-to ebooks related to my work), too. Largely, though, I am blazing my own trail as a successful business owner who operates from a home office selling, for the most part, apparel (online and offline) through pre-printed as well as print-on-demand (POD) services. I serve as a consultant to others who want to make a profitable, livable income doing the same. This blog is a freestyle extension of this – that’s why it’s called “The Business of My Business” as it lets you get a glimpse into what I do and how I do it and, hopefully, gives you good information.
I live and work from my home in Des Moines, Iowa, US. I have a family, roaring BBQ grill on the deck, and a cup of coffee next to me most days. I’m also a geek. I love technology and gadgets. Some days I hate technology and gadgets.
I’m active in several online communities related to my work and try very hard to help build and develop them with my contributions because I have benefited so much by the contributions of others.
I spend a great deal of my workday online, on the phone, in chat, on video conference, and on the computer in general. It allows me to work from home while my wife works at a “normal” office job so we can raise our own, young children instead of a daycare.
Perhaps it’s this that is the dream or goal of many new or aspiring business owners? If I can help others do what I do and be successful in meeting their goals then I’m accomplishing my goals, too.
